Gaming has become increasingly popular. Most users always bring a handy, yet powerful gaming device with them, i.e., a mobile device equipped with high resolution touch screens, powerful CPUs and GPUs. With such a device, game-play becomes pervasive, immersing in many parts of their daily lives. Also, games are rapidly incorporating more sophisticated technologies, e.g., wearable and smart devices, head-mounted displays, virtual and augmented realities, and cloud computing, seamlessly adapting themselves to mobile computing environments. Further, advances of these technologies are to spur new imagination for gaming; people are expecting new excitement and fun. The increased expectations present diverse challenges of importance to designers, researchers and practitioners across various areas such as computer graphics, vision, systems, networking, HCI, interaction and experience design.
The third international workshop on mobile gaming is intended to bring together interested designers, researchers, and practitioners to discuss the latest developments in this growing field and exchange new challenges and innovative ideas. We will identify what we have already achieved, the challenges that lie ahead, and promising avenues forward.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- design of novel gaming contents and experiences
- new game genres and interaction modalities
- social and massively multiplayer mobile games
- sociality and matchmaking in games
- impact of device diversities and limitations on the content and experience design
- cross–device gaming
- virtual- and augmented-reality games
- mobile games in a smart space and interactions with diverse smart devices
- mobile games and head-mounted displays, wearables, and other peripherals.
- quality of gaming experiences and computational resources, e.g., CPU, battery, and bandwidth
- device, server, and networking technologies for mobile games
- cloud support for mobile game streaming
- analysis and measurement studies to understand mobile games and technologies e.g., traffic, usability, experience and gaming effects
All submissions must be original work not under review at any other workshops, conferences, or journals. The workshop will accept papers describing completed work as well as work-in-progress, so long as the promise of the approach is demonstrated. Radical ideas, potentially of a controversial nature, are strongly encouraged.
Submissions must be no greater than 6 pages in length and must be a PDF file. Reviews will be single-blind: authors’ name and affiliation should be included in the submission. Submissions must follow the formatting guidelines at http://www.sigmobile.org/mobisys/2016.
